NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Police received a call around 5:15 p.m. in which there was a domestic-related shooting in the 100 block of Dover Circle.

A woman is currently in custody and the man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but is now in stable condition, according to the NPD.

Alanna K. Chace, 37, was suffering from self-inflicted injuries and taken to the hospital, says the city of Norfolk.

"About 5:15, we get called out here for a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers came out and rendered aid and got to an ambulance. He was taken off to the hospital. It’s involving some kind of domestic violence situation," Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot said.

Police say a woman barricaded herself inside a house, after a man was shot.

"We have a person inside a residence here that we want to talk to and we’re working to make contact with that person," Talbot said.

Neighbors tell News 3 that a married couple lives inside the home.

"I heard the wife shot the husband with a shot gun. I just found out he got taken away," Kosmas Griffin, a neighbor said.

"Did you know them?" News 3's Leondra Head asked.

"I did not, I knew the man but I didn’t know the family well. This is shocking. It is a quiet neighborhood. I saw the man outside a lot. He was a big fisher and always took the kayak out," Griffin said.

Following the investigation, Chase was charged with malicious wounding, domestic assault and use of a firearm.

She is currently being held in the hospital and will be transported to the Norfolk City Jail after her treatment.
