NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Two boys were sent to the hospital Tuesday following a shooting near Hickory point and Warwick Boulevard in Newport News, says police.
Officers arrived to the scene around 7 p.m. to find a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old with gunshot wounds. Police say they are both expected to survive.
Just the next day, a 17-year-old teen was found shot near a bus stop, meaning that three teens were shot in Newport News within a 12 hour time span. Police say they do not believe the shootings are connected.
Newport News Mayor Phillip Jones put out a statement regarding the incidents.
"While these were isolated incidents, they are a stark reminder of the challenges we face in keeping our city safe."
