NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A school bus driver crashed into a house Thursday morning in Newport News after a collision with another bus, police said.
The incident occurred around 8:34 a.m. in the area of 28th Street and Marshall Avenue, police say.
Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that two school buses, one that was carrying children and one which was not, colliding in the intersection of 28th Street and Marshall Avenue after one driver ran a red light.
That driver was issued a citation for running the red light, according to police.
The Newport News Fire Department said 11 students were being transported between the two buses. Only "minor complaints" were reported.
This is the third incident in Newport News this week where a vehicle caused damage to a building, NNFD said. On Wednesday, a car crashed into a daycare center.
It is also the second school bus-related incident in our region Thursday, as a Elizabeth City-Pasquotank bus collided with a carin northeast North Carolina.

The NNFD is clearing the scene of an accident at 28th Street and Marshall Ave that involved two school buses that were transporting 11 children. The NN Dispatch Center received the call around 830 this morning. All of the occupants, including the drivers were evaluated on scene. Only minor complaints were reported. At this time, no one required a transport for further assessment.
Members from Newport News FD, Police, and schools, worked to notify family members of the incident and reunite them with their children.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. This is the 3rd accident in 3 days where a vehicle accident has caused damage to a building in Newport News. Thankfully, no one has been seriously injured! We love our citizens, please drive safely!
