UPDATE: Police confirm shutdown of I-64 in Hampton was caused by shooting incident

All westbound lanes of I-64 in Hampton reopened late Wednesday night after Virginia State Police said they were investigating a "possible shooting."
Around 6:40 p.m., State Police said the westbound lanes had been completely shut down at Neil Armstrong Parkway. It caused a significant backup.
At the scene, News 3's crews observed a vehicle that appeared to have bullet holes through a passenger car window though State Police have not confirmed if it was related to the incident.

Troopers and Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents could be seen searching through the nearby wooded area.
The road was reopened shortly after 10 p.m. Around that time, News 3 witnessed some cars that had been damaged being loaded onto a flatbed truck.
Authorities did not release any other details, but a heavy backup could be seen from VDOT cameras in the area.
