Hampton Branch NAACP to host Juneteenth event with free COVID-19 testing

HAMPTON, Va. - The Hampton Branch NAACP has organized the Juneteenth “Your Health is Your Wealth” event in partnership with The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, the Urban League of Hampton Roads, Sentara Health Systems, Hampton University and the Virginia Department of Health.

Juneteenth is an annual unofficial U.S. holiday that many states are working to make official,including Virginia. Juneteenth occurs every June 19 and celebrates the emancipation of the last slaves to be set free from the Confederacy on June 19, 1865.

The event will be held on Friday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Emancipation Oak parking lot on the Hampton University campus, located on Emancipation Drive. This is down the street from the Hampton University convention center.

Free COVID-19 testing will be provided along with free masks and gloves, as well as boxes of food that will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.
