YORK COUNTY, Va. - York-Poquoson Police are investigating a shooting that happened in the 100 block of Leslie Lane around 4 a.m., Monday.
According to a news release, a string of reported vehicle break-ins led to the shooting of a male homeowner after he confronted a man.
A male suspect was arrested, accused of shooting the off-duty sheriff's deputy. The deputy was taken to a local hospital to be treated and he's in stable condition, officials said.
The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Jordan Edmonds Hilliard. He has been arrested and charged with Attempted Capital Murder, Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Discharging a Firearm in a Public Place, Use or Display a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Unlawfully Wound While in the Commission or Attempted Commission of a Felony, Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling, Reckless Handling of a Firearm, False Information to Law Enforcement Officer, Trespassing into a Vehicle, Brandishing, four counts of Destruction of Property and two counts of Tampering with Auto.
The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the shooting report Monday morning. They said, "At this time we are not releasing the identity of the deputy, but please have him in your thoughts and prayers while he receives medical treatment for his injuries. We have confirmed that he is currently in stable condition."
