Events over 100 people banned in Virginia, Gov. Northam recommends no social gatherings

There are now 45 people in Virginia who have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

There have been eight cases in the Peninsula Health District as of Sunday afternoon.

Gatherings over 100 people have been banned in Virginia and over 50 are banned on the Peninsula.

All local government buildings on the Peninsula are closed to the public for two weeks. They will continue to provide services but are not open to public.

Police and sheriff's offices and firefighters will still provide services as well and trash collection will go on as scheduled, Gov. Northam said.City buildings will remain closed to the public through March 30, 2020 as the coronavirus COVID-19 situation continues to escalate in the region. These buildings are: the Stryker Center, Municipal Building, Community Building, Quarterpath Recreation Center, police station and fire station.

“While walk-in business is halted, City staff will continue to do the business of the City,” says City Manager Andrew Trivette. “Payments or other paperwork that need to be delivered can be placed in the outside drop box at the Municipal Building. In addition, many business transactions can be completed and submitted online, but please know that staff will be available to take calls and answer emails, during normal business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.” The staff email and telephone directory is available on the City’s website.

On Saturday officials said a man in his 70s died from the virus on the peninsula.
