Virginia reports 24 new COVID-19 deaths, 894 cases; Hampton Roads reports 18.6% of state case increase

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 112,966 total cases, 108,112 of which are confirmed and 4,854 are probable. There are 2,467 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 2,348 being confirmed and 119 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 894, and deaths are up by 24 since Saturday. Our local Virginia area saw 167 new cases, 9 hospitalizations and 9 deaths, with Norfolk reporting the highest amount of new deaths at 4.

A total of 1,466,033 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. The percent positivity rate for Virginia overall sits at 6.5%.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Sunday, there are 846 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 309 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,155 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 1 more hospitalization from Saturday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 9,176.

251 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

130 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 587 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,086 in the state - that's 19% usage.

14,443 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
