Virginia reports 1,212 new COVID-19 cases; Chesapeake sees highest local case increase

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 112,072 total cases, 107,268 of which are confirmed and 4,804 are probable. There are 2,443 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 2,324 being confirmed and 119 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 1,212, and deaths are up by 7 since Friday. Our local Virginia area saw 312 new cases, 28 hospitalizations and three deaths, two in Virginia Beach and one in Chesapeake.

A total of 1,453,671 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. The percent positivity rate for Virginia overall sits at 6.5%.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Saturday, there are 863 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 291 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,154 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 79 less hospitalizations from Friday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 9,139.

254 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

125 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 579 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,086 in the state - that's 19% usage.

14,353 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
