Virginia Beach, Norfolk see triple digit case increases from Monday; COVID-19 hospitalizations rise throughout Hampton Roads

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 79,371 total cases, 76,427 of which are confirmed and 2,944 are probable. There are 2,048 total coronavirus related deaths, with 1,945 being confirmed and 103 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 996, and deaths are up by 17 since Monday.

Our local area reported 414 new cases, 22 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths from Monday. 224 of those local cases were reported out of Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Tuesday, there are 762 people currently being hospitalized for coronavirus. That is a rise of 19 more confirmed positive hospitalizations in 24 hours.

There are 427 people currently receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are pending. 258 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

127 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 624 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,047 in the state - that's 20% usage.

10,235 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

  • Chesapeake 1,790 cases, 174 hospitalized, 24 deaths (+32 cases, +5 hospitalization from Monday)
  • Accomack 1,057 cases, 74 hospitalized, 15 deaths (+4 cases, 1 hospitalization from Monday)
  • Northampton 281 cases, 44 hospitalized, 28 deaths (+2 cases from Monday)
  • Hampton 751 cases, 43 hospitalized, 4 deaths (+28 cases from Monday)
  • Norfolk 2,326 cases, 145 hospitalized, 21 deaths (+115 cases, +3 hospitalizations, +1 death from Monday)
  • James City County 456 cases, 59 hospitalized, 16 deaths (+4 cases from Monday)
  • Newport News 1,237 cases, 64 hospitalized, 14 deaths (+31 cases, +4 hospitalizations, +1 death from Monday)
  • Poquoson 28 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths (+1 case from Monday)
  • Williamsburg 96 cases, 12 hospitalized, 6 deaths (+2 cases from Monday)
  • York County 234 cases, 12 hospitalized, 3 deaths (+8 cases from Monday)
  • Portsmouth 1,046 cases, 101 hospitalized, 21 deaths (+37 cases, +2 hospitalizations, +1 death from Monday)
  • Gloucester 109 cases, 11 hospitalized, 1 death (+10 cases from Monday)
  • Virginia Beach 2,829 cases, 154 hospitalized, 38 deaths (+109 cases, +5 hospitalizations, +1 death from Monday)
