VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach City Public Schools notified VBCPS students and families attending the summer program at Centerville Elementary that an employee tested positive for coronavirus.

School officials say they were informed by the Virginia Department of Health that a staff member who was in Centerville Elementary School on July 6 and July 7 has since tested positive for COVID-19.

This person will not return to the school building until released by their healthcare provider and CDC guidance has been met, according to officials.

The VDH believes the risk of transmission is low since this staff member was wearing a mask or face shield and practicing social distancing.

VBCPS says they are working with the VDH to identify and communicate further with individuals who may have had an increased exposure risk and require additional notification and guidance.

Classes are still scheduled to resume Monday.
