Local COVID-19 cases made up 20% of statewide case rise since Monday; 3 deaths reported in Western Tidewater region, 1 in VB

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 108,282 total cases, 103,809 of which are confirmed and 4,473 are probable. There are 2,396 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 2,278 being confirmed and 118 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 861, and deaths are up by 11 since Monday. Our Virginia viewing area saw an increase of 174 cases, roughly 20% of Virginia's increase as a whole. 3 deaths were reported in the Western Tidewater District and 1 in Virginia Beach. There were also 26 new hospitalizations in our viewing area of Virginia's 82 from Monday.

A total of 1,385,832 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. The percent of positive tests has dropped below 7% in Virginia. As of Tuesday, the VDH says the rate sits at 6.8%.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Tuesday, there are 872 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 381 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,253 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 80 more hospitalizations from Monday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 8,849.

300 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

163 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 604 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,044 in the state - that's 20% usage.

13,910 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
