CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Chesapeake Public Schools announced Wednesday that all students will be learning online from home Thursday, February 25 to accommodate COVID-19 vaccination clinics for employees.
According to CPS, the Chesapeake Health Department informed the school system that 1,000 vaccines originally scheduled for administration earlier in the month are now available, and the school system must administer them by Thursday.
"Administering that many vaccinations in one day will require all our health services staff and administrative support," said Richard Babb with CPS in an email. "Therefore, we are adjusting our school calendar to add tomorrow, Thursday, February 25 as an Asynchronous Student Support Day."
CPS apologized for the short notice, but said it "cannot miss this important opportunity" to provide the vaccine to its employees.
