HAMPTON, Va. - It's the moment some fishers have been waiting almost a year for.

The James T. Wilson fishing pier at Buckroe Beach reopened Saturday.

The pier was damaged in November when a barge broke free and crashed into it during a storm. No one was hurt during the incident.

The pier will now be open for regular hours through December, then it will close until April.

Some anglers told News 3 they showed up today as early as 5:30 a.m. for the grand opening at 8 a.m.

"I couldn't wait for this to open back up. I'm from Waverly to try and catch me some trouts before I go home. I ain't going home without any," one angler told News 3.

Everyone visiting the pier is asked to wear a masks and stay 10 feet away from each other. There is a cap of 160 anglers on the pier at one time.
