'Back the Blue' rally held to showcase support of Virginia Beach's police

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach residents came out to support the city's police department Saturday afternoon.

The "Back the Blue" rally was held at 2 p.m., starting at the Virginia Beach Police Department Headquarters located on Princess Anne Road.

The rally was hosted by United we Stand, Support our Police and First Responders.

People came out to support with signs and flags, wearing blue and black to support their city's police officers.

The event comes as police across the country are being criticized for police brutality.

"There's no listening. Everyone's talking at each other and nobody's listening. Let's operate in love and peace and harmony. If not we're going to lose this country," Retired VBPD T.C. Livingston says.

Multiple officer spoke at the rally including former Virginia Congressman Scott Taylor who spoke on the importance of the role of police.
