NORFOLK, Va. - Apple announced Friday that it will close its Apple Store at MacArthur Center.
"While we have made the difficult decision to close our store at MacArthur Center, we are pleased to be able to offer all of our team members other jobs within Apple," a spokesperson for the company said. "We look forward to helping customers at Apple Lynnhaven Mall, as well as on Apple.com and our popular Apple Store and Support apps.”
No date has been announced for the store's closure.
There are only nine Apple Stores in Virginia. After the store in MacArthur Center closes, the closest store will be in Virginia Beach's Lynnhaven Mall.
Melissa De La Cruz owns Apple products and is already thinking about where she will take them if she can't make it to Virginia Beach.
“YouTube or I can just go to Best Buy or some other tech store" she said.
Tech stores like Computer Concepts.
“One of the things we pride ourselves in is there is no appointment needed," said Jeremy Rosa, who owns the store.
“We know their families. We learn about their kids; we learn about their kids going to college," he said.
Rosa has three locations: Two on the Peninsula, and one in Chesapeake. Computer Concepts is also an authorized Apple repair and sales shop.
He said traffic picked up during the pandemic when Apple closed their stores last year.
“The Apple store relied on us a whole lot because they were closed for several months and we were the only option for those Apple customers," he said.
Rosa says if you have AppleCare, they can take care of you.
"It’s going to make us even busier and give us an opportunity to build more relationships."
