The American Heart Association dropped off more than 100 handwritten Valentine's Day cards at two local hospitals to show some love to cardiac rehabilitation patients.
According to a release by the American Heart Association, patients at the Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk as well as the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center received words of encouragement and information about the Association's free Support Network.
The cards were delivered by volunteers, staff and heart attack survivors.
"Recovering from a heart or stroke event, or managing chronic conditions can be challenging. It helps to have somewhere to turn for emotional support," the Association said in a statement. "Studies have shown that having support can affect physical as well as emotional healing, reducing depression and improving the quality of life."
