NORFOLK, Va. - Four buildings at Naval Station Norfolk were evacuated Wednesday due to a "hit natural gas line," according to Virginia Natural Gas.
The buildings were evacuated after a gas leak was reported near Gate 3 around 10:24 a.m., according to Naval Station Norfolk officials.
Officials say wind was blowing the gas directly over the buildings.
Virginia Natural Gas was on the scene and said that the 8-inch natural gas main was damaged by a contractor working on a project unrelated to Virginia Natural Gas. The gas main was safely repaired.
