3 people arrested in Elizabeth City drug bust

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - Officers from multiple jurisdictions conducted an operation combating violent and drug-related crimes in North Carolina Friday, arresting three people and issuing at least 12 citations.

According to the Elizabeth City Police Department, as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, the ECPD, Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office, Gates County Sheriff's Office, Perquimans County Sheriff's Office, Dare County Sheriff's Office, Camden County Sheriff's Office, Currituck County Sheriff's Office, the Edenton Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigations conducted surveillance of known hotspots in the area.

A search warrant was executed on room 297 at the Days Inn Hotel on S. Hughes Boulevard in Elizabeth City. Police arrested 35-year-old Maurice Toxey, 31-year-old Carly Pruitt and 34-year-old Gideon Griffin Jr. on various drug charges.

Toxey and Pruitt were both charged with possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of controlled substance activity. They are being held at the Albemarle District Jail.

Griffin was charged with felony possession of cocaine, failure to appear on a warrant for felony possession of cocaine and civil contempt of a child support warrant. He is also being held at the Albemarle District Jail.

Law enforcement agencies also cited three drug paraphernalia charges, two charges of driving with a revoked license, two vehicle mechanical violations, one charge of possession of marijuana less than half an ounce, one expired registration, one revoked vehicle registration, one inspection violation and one child restraint violation.
