VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Essential Church in Virginia Beach plans to hand out a remaining stock of toilet paper left over from its toilet paper "drive-through" it held last Thursday.
The church was left with 1,600 rolls after Thursday's drive-through event when cars lined up outside the church to each receive four rolls of toilet paper. Cars pulled up to a tent and volunteers handed them the rolls inside a plastic bag.
The church hosted the drive-through response to the rapid shortage of toilet paper in stores. Stores across Hampton Roads and the nation experienced the shortage as people purchased large quantities of toilet paper due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Essential Church wanted to help meet the demand after toilet paper was included in their periodic supply shipment. The church's pastor told News 3 on Thursday that they did not need the supply of toilet paper because the church is temporarily closed. The closure was in response to mass-gathering bans implemented across the state as a way to mitigate the coronavirus spread.
The pastor told News 3 that the second toilet paper drive-through will be Wednesday, March 25 from 5:00 pm. until supplies are gone. Attendees will receive eight rolls this time.
Essential Church is located at 4020 Ware Neck Dr in Virginia Beach.
