Despite his academic responsibilities and News Director duties, Kurt's ambition drove him to seek additional experiences. He also worked at WREG, a nearby radio station, and Cable DeKalb, an Atlanta community affairs channel. During this time, Kurt started working an internship at WXIA-TV, which eventually paved the way for his first paid television job at the assignment desk. Seeking new horizons, Kurt ventured to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he filled multiple roles at WDEF-TV, including Producer, Weekend Anchor, Reporter, Editor, and Prompter Operator. Often juggling these responsibilities within the same day, Kurt showcased his versatility and commitment to the craft. Eventually, he made his way to Norfolk, Virginia, joining the team at WTKR News 3.

Kurt's relentless work ethic is evident to those around him, a testament to his passion for the industry. Kurt is a bit of a workaholic but as he says, “you have to be in this business.” And that’s exactly the advice he passes on to anyone interested in a career in television news, saying “get as much experience as you can, work at your school newspaper, radio station, TV station, run the church video camera, do internships and make sure you master your grammar, geography and speaking skills.”
