NORFOLK, Va. - During this stay-at-home order, it's safe to say families are grasping for opportunities to break up the monotony while also staying safe.
"We offer Pedego brand electric bikes, which are game changers," said Pedego Electric Bikes owner Kevin Oliver. "While families are stuck inside and working from home, these are so much fun."
Kevin and his wife Amy's shop is located in downtown Norfolk.
"We have it all: cruisers, beach bikes, cargo bikes, tandem bikes, fold-up bikes, you name it," said Amy Oliver.
You can feel the fresh air we all need biking at speeds up to 20 mph, on a charge that lasts between 45 to 60 miles.
"We have pedal assist, but you can of course manually pedal or do a mix of both," said Amy.
"They are so easy to use and they allow people who haven't ridden a bike in 30 to 40 years to get on one," said Kevin Oliver.
The Olivers have had to shift their business model a bit due to the novel coronavirus.
"We had to close the store doors for now for the safety of our employees and customers, as it's hard to explain how to use these bikes while staying six feet away," Amy explained.
Now they are using a transit van to offer no-contact delivery, dropping freshly-sanitized bikes off at your door.
"We are now offering weekly rentals at $125 dollars a week for one, $200 for two bikes and $250 for three bikes. It's 80 percent off the orginal price," Amy explained.
They are also offering video tutorials online to limit contact, and you can pay for your ride on their website too.
"We want people to try them out, they are so much fun to do as a family and you can go a lot further as well," said Kevin.
They also offer electric scooters and electric skateboards for rentals and purchases as well as the bikes.
