Derrah Getter joined the First Warning Weather Team in May 2024 after graduating from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, go Gators! She is currently pursuing her master's degree in Geosciences at Mississippi State University.Derrah was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. In the summer of 2023, she interned at WESH 2 News / CW 18 in her hometown. She previously worked as a weekend weather forecaster at WCJB TV 20 in Gainesville, Florida. She was also a weather anchor and reporter for WUFT First at Five, the University of Florida’s PBS affiliated student-run news organization where she covered various events such as Hurricane Idalia. Derrah was awarded the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Division of Multimedia Properties Excellence in Multimedia Meteorology award, and she won a Broadcast Education Association Television Weathercaster award in 2024.
When she’s not forecasting, Derrah enjoys thrifting, trying new restaurants and spending time at the beach.You can catch her on Saturday evenings at 6 pm and 11 pm, Sunday evenings at 6:30 pm and 11 pm and Wednesday through Friday at noon, 4 pm, 7 pm and 10 pm.
