HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—Appomattox is full of history. Most notably, it is home to The McClean House, where General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Lt. Ulysses S. Grant in 1865, ending the Civil War. Appomattox Court House National Historical Park will commemorate the 160th anniversary of Freedom Day in 2025.
