Chelsea Donovan joined the News 3 team in April 2019. Prior to calling Hampton Roads home, Chelsea worked as an reporter and weekend evening anchor at WECT-TV in Wilmington, North Carolina. During her time in Wilmington, Chelsea zeroed in on the court and crime beats, working alongside law enforcement and striving each day to tell stories giving voices to victims of crime. Chelsea also covered Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Florence that devastated the region. In the face of catastrophe, Chelsea aimed to highlight stories of victim survival and the resiliency of those hardest hit.
Prior to Wilmington, Chelsea worked in the Greenville, New Bern and Jacksonville area where she held the role of Jacksonville Bureau Chief, covering the military at Camp Lejeune, among other beats.
Chelsea knew from a young age she wanted to be a journalist, incessantly asking questions to gain answers, to the point of exhaustion for most of her family members! She graduated with honors with a BS in Communications from East Carolina University.
Chelsea grew up in the Midwest and visits her extended family in Illinois whenever she can. Her parents are retired in Wilmington, NC and she plans to visit her former hometown often to visit and enjoy the pristine North Carolina beaches.
In her spare time Chelsea enjoys walking her beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Obie, trips to the beach, trying new restaurants, watching true crime documentaries, eating copious amounts of pizza and gummy bears.
