  • Thousands of pirates invade Newport News

    Newport News, Va. – The Mariners’ Museum was invaded by thousands of pirates on Saturday in an attempt to break a world record! The largest ever pirate gathering totaled 14,231 and that record is now held by Hastings, England. The Mariners’ Museum came up short with only 6,759 pirates in attendance, but that didn’t stop the day’s fun. Pirates were counted using wristbands when entering the park; however not just anyone with an eye patch and stuffed parrot was able to pass as a pirate.

  • Two juveniles injured in Norfolk shooting

    Norfolk, VA –  A double shooting happened in the 6400 block of Chesapeake Boulevard in Norfolk Saturday around 8:30 pm. Police say both a boy and a girl suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say both are in good condition. Police are currently investigating but looking for 3 men suspected in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the crime line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.   • The community takes action for a Virginia Beach woman with cancer

    Virginia Beach, VA – The community gathered at The Happy Shopper on Holland Road Saturday afternoon and put on a car wash to raise money for Cheryl Hughes and her family. Hughes is recovering from colon cancer and was on the verge of eviction from her house when the community took action and helped her get results. Organizers of the event say they raised $12,000 today.

  • Freedom Run held in memory of September 11

    Chesapeake, VA  –  The Chesapeake Sheriff’s office put on a 9.11 mile run in memory of the lives lost on September 11th. This event was also held to honor the members of the United States Military as well as the public service members that sacrifice so much on a daily basis. The run kicked off Saturday morning at the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail. All the proceeds from todays event will benefit the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office Charities Inc.

    Virginia Beach, VA – A Green Run Community is taking action for a 15 year-old. Victoria Ali is fighting a stage four brain tumor.   • More than 100 soldiers return to Fort Eustis

    More than 100 soldiers returned to Fort Eustis on Monday night. About 105 soldiers returned from the 359th Inland Cargo Transfer Company, 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade. They were deployed in Afghanistan for the past nine months, supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Three soldiers from the unit were killed during the deployment. The ceremony was held on Monday night  at 9 p.m. at the McClellan Fitness Center.

  • UPDATE: Man arrested, charged with murder in Hampton

    Hampton, Va. – Police have arrested a man in connection with a homicide that happened over the weekend. Hampton police have arrested 52-year-old Darryl Allen of the 100 block of Winchester Drive. He is charged with one count of murder and is currently incarcerated in the Hampton City Jail. It happened on September 8, 2013.     Virginia Beach, VA – Surfers competed in Neptune’s Surfing Classic today. The competition is part of the Annual Neptune Festival going on all month. Surfers of all ages hit the waves between 1st and 8th streets for a chance to win prizes. Today’s contest was produced in conjunction with the Eastern Suffering Association.
