VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — More children in Virginia who are critically ill are now on their way to having their wishes come true.

On Wednesday morning, Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia hosted a big fundraiser at the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach. WTKR News 3 reporter Angela Bohon emceed the "Wake up for Wishes" breakfast!

The nonprofit is known for their work in granting the wishes of children between the ages of two-and-a-half and 18 years old with life-threatening medical conditions. Some examples include a dream vacation or meeting a favorite celebrity at the breakfast.

Angela got to meet the Boyd family whose son, Oliver, is currently in remission. He was diagnosed just before his 8th birthday with T-cell lymphoma. After treatment, he got his wish of meeting C.J. Stroud, quarterback of the Houston Texans!

"These wishes do so much for not only the kids, but for the families as well. And I just want you to remember that too, that even though it's for the kids, you know, it takes a village," said Robert Boyd, Oliver's father.

Oliver is doing a lot better — he goes to CHKD regularly for blood work, and he says his journey has helped shape his future. When he grows up, he says he wants to help other sick kids.

"When you grow up, what do you want to do?" Angela asked Oliver. He responded, "Of course, be a pediatric oncologist."

There are 65 kids in Hampton Roads right now waiting for their wishes to be granted. For more information, click here.
