Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 14. The greatest joy, privilege, and responsibility for me is being a mom. You may have heard the popular quote from Elizabeth Stone: "Your heart will forever walk around outside of your body" when you have a child. That's really true.
The team at News 3 wanted to honor our moms, talk about being a mom, and simply share our hearts with you ahead of Mother's Day.

My mom's name is Maria and she taught me how to cook and bake. I swear that lady is the reason that I'm good at anything in the kitchen.

Mom has always been a great teacher: Some things that are tangible, like teaching me how to sew or how to bake; other things just about life and how to be a good person. Mom always likes to say, "Don't sweat the small stuff," and, "What goes around comes around."

We are very close and we are kind of like best friends. I mean, obviously, technology helps that you can be just a phone call or text message away. And we do talk daily through that. But it's not the same as being in person. And I always look to her for advice, or, I'm a very indecisive person. So just those random decisions, it's always nice to have someone to bounce back some of those ideas on.
Penny Kmitt
My mom always taught me to have a really strong handshake because she worked in a very male-dominated industry and said, it's a great way to earn people's respect. And she's right.

Coming home from work every day, I get to see my little boy Zealand and he's always so happy. He's such a happy little boy. Always smiling, always puts a big smile on my face when I get to come home. And I have another one on the way. So excited to be a mom of two here soon.
Barbara Ciara
I think about my mother every day when I make up my bed, because every Saturday morning, we did laundry, we made our beds, and she said that the sheets had to be tight enough where you could bounce a quarter off of it. So that's how I remember every day like a drill sergeant making sure we had those beds really tight.

We just get better but not really older every year. But that's kind of what I love about her is getting to know her more as an adult and respecting her not just as a mom, but as a human and all the sacrifices she made for us. And you really can appreciate that more the older you get.
Jessica Larché
She is a testament to perseverance. She's a testament to being selfless. She's a testament to love. And I'm so grateful to be her daughter.
I'd like to also make space for those remembering their moms on this day as we honor the women we love so much.
From all of us here at News 3, Happy Mother's Day!
