HAMPTON ROADS, Va. — A local nonprofit is helping fathers across Hampton Roads by offering financial support.

Fifteen fathers across Hampton Roads will receive $500 next week from The Fatherhood Foundation of Virginia, an organization that supports the mission of focusing on the important role dads play in their children's lives.

The Richmond-based organization recently started free services for dads in Hampton Roads. The Fatherhood Foundation serves in areas designated by the Attorney General’s Office as high-crime areas.

Nonprofit leaders say many great dads want to be involved, but their environment—on top of working several jobs to make ends meet—can be tough.

"When Christmas time comes around, things get a little tighter. You have to buy trees, presents, and even go to certain events. We want to make sure these dads are working very hard to provide for their families. They're not looking for handouts, we're giving them a hand up," said Chris Beach, CEO of Fatherhood Foundation of Virginia.

“The money comes to us and goes right back out to the dads,” Beach added. “So if you know of a business or you want to get involved somehow, and you don’t want to go shopping, but you definitely want to help a community member, you can go to our webpage right beside where you nominate a dad," he said.

Fatherhood Foundation of Virginia leaders hope the $500 allows great fathers to enjoy the holidays stress-free.
