NORFOLK, Va. — A mural in the Ocean View neighborhood of Norfolk is bringing a pop of color to a residential area.

The artist behind this colorful masterpiece is Abby Pawley of Pawley Prints.

"I'd say realism, but with a pop of color. I like to do realism, but I like it to be a little brighter than it would be in real life", says Pawley.

That's how she would describe her painting style. And you can't deny just how real this mural looks.

Pawley was a part of the 2021 Mural Festival in the Vibe District, where she completed the masterpiece you see below.

And then in November 2022 completed this one.

"I use a lot of oil paint tubes, so probably like ten of those and then two buckets of paint for the background," says Pawley.

Pawley says she worked 8 hours a day for about 11 days to complete the Mahi on the residential building.

I asked Pawley if she had any advice for young artists out there and she said, "My whole thing is just don't give up. Because I've been rejected from magazines, from murals, from the art academy as a kid and now I do 60 foot murals."

Some of her other artwork can be found in GoJuice and Golden Hour Boutique in Virginia Beach.
