PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Mercy Chefs has deployed to Perryton, Texas following a tornado that left a devastating path of destruction, displacing families and leaving 4,500 residents without power.

The nonprofit served lunch on Saturday, and will serve both lunch and dinner in the coming days with the capacity to serve more than 10,000 meals a day.

"We are deeply saddened by the destruction caused by the recent tornado in Texas," said Gary LeBlanc, founder and CEO of Mercy Chefs. "Our hearts go out to the families who have been displaced and are facing such challenging circumstances. In times like these, a warm meal can make a world of a difference. Mercy Chefs is committed to providing nourishment, comfort and hope to those affected by this tragedy."

Mercy Chefs say they've served more than 24 million meals since it was founded in 2006.
