VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Beach SPCA received 24 dogs, 12 adults and 12 puppies, from St. Landry Parish Animal Control in rural Louisiana on Tuesday.

The addition of the animals to the VBSPCA was a part of a coordinated effort by the Bissell Pet Foundation to get animals out of the oppressive heat in the Deep South, where shelters there are facing overcrowding like many others across the country, according to VBSPCA.

The dogs and puppies are settling into their new shelter and will be made available for adoption in the coming days and weeks, said VBSPCA.

They will appear in the 'Adoptable Animals' section on their website once they are ready to find their new families.
