VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Beach SPCA is hosting private tours for youth groups to visit their shelter. Children will get the opportunity to see their cattery, kennel, and small animal room.

According to the sign-up site, the purpose is to teach children about the wonderful world of animals and give them an opportunity to see for themselves.

Our animals benefit from any type of enrichment and that includes our visitors as well, so we are really happy when members of our community come in to visit with our animals," said Mandi Kowaleski, VBSPCA Communications and Marketing Manager.

The shelter is also allowing for children to have hands-on experience to interact with at least one of the shelter animals, all in effort to educate and share their mission with the community.

“By focusing on children, it not only helps them to learn the values of kindness and compassion, but also can teach them how to be responsible pet parent later on in life as well," said Kowaleski.

The shelter offers tours for youth of all ages on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between four to six p.m. For more information on accommodations and availability, visit VBSPCA Youth Group Shelter Tours.
