CHESAPEAKE, Va. — In the holiday spirit? A Chesapeake community center is giving back to its community in a delicious way!
TheBuffalow Family and Friends Community Days organization has dedicated countless hours to prepping food for families in need this holiday season, for their 13th annual "Thanksgiving Dinner."
CEO/Founder, Nischelle Buffalow started the event with just 25 volunteers to combat the ongoing food insecurity crisis in her own special way. It has since grown to over 300 helping hands!
"That's why we started the organization and feeding because of food insecurity and food desserts here in our community. But, not only in our community but throughout the whole Virginia, that everybody is experiencing food insecurity, it's our service here at Buffalow family and friends that we serve but we are ordinary people making a difference in the lives of others," said Buffalow.
With the help of volunteers, the center has fed over 1,200 people since Monday of this week. Many locals expressed their gratitude towards Buffalow and her volunteers for hosting an event like this as for many Hampton Roads residents, this is the only meal they will receive today.
"I think it's amazing that families can come together and just be blessed and have an actual meal to eat," said Brian Vega.
The organization is still in need of donations. To find more information on ways you can help support, visit Buffalowfamily.org.
