CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Patrick Rockey took a walk with his furry friend Bo, who would have preferred a run to a walk! That's his sister's 3-year-old Vizsla dog.
Vizslas are sporting dogs, known for being energetic! So, she enjoyed our trip to the beautiful Chesapeake Arboretum.
There are 51 acres to enjoy right in the heart of Chesapeake, between Greenbrier and Great Bridge.
The arboretum has 3 ½ miles of walking trails, crossing 11 bridges.
The trails are mostly covered by a canopy of trees which helped shade them from the late summer sunshine.
The trail crosses a few small hills, making the walk just a little more challenging.
And while they had read that mosquitoes can be a problem, they didn't have to deal with very many when they visited in the late morning hours.
While you'll find signs identifying many of the trees at the arboretum, there aren't a lot of trail signs; so it's easy to get a little turned around as the different paths cross.
Patrick suggests downloading a trail map before you venture into the park.
The park is also home to a small lake and a 1,700 year old farm house that they hope will one day become a museum.
