NORFOLK, Va. — If you want a beautiful, pedestrian friendly neighborhood, you can't go wrong with Norfolk's East Beach community.

East Beach is between Little Creek and the Chesapeake Bay. We especially love the neighborhood's tree-lined streets and well-maintained sidewalks.

There are many coastal-style homes with front porches that make it feel really friendly and inviting.

The neighborhood was laid out to preserve as many of the mature trees as possible. And they did a great job.

You only have to walk a few blocks before you come across one of the neighborhood's many small parks. Each one is unique and we ran into lots of folks out enjoying them.

East Beach was redeveloped in the late 1990s and early 2000s and has been a centerpiece of the revitalization of the Ocean View area of the city.

The neighborhood is nearly surrounded by water with Little Creek on two sides and the Chesapeake Bay on the third.

So it's nice that every few blocks there are beach walkovers, making it super easy to get to the beach.

Which I guess is important if your name is East Beach!

Now that we're past Memorial Day, dogs are only allowed on the beach before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. – as for all Norfolk beaches until after Labor Day.
