Enjoy a day full of activities with your family at Deep Creek Park

Some area parks have great playgrounds. Others are known for their ball fields, fishing spots or picnic areas. But I visited a park that has all of those things, including a really great walking trail!

I went to a fast-growing part of Chesapeake to check out Deep Creek Park.

The one mile walking trail loop is flat and paved, and a pleasant way to get your steps in, but if you're looking for challenging hills and really interesting scenery, it might not be at the top of your list.

A lot of the trees here aren't very mature yet, and you can tell this 130-acre park was carved out of an old farm field.

While I typically focus almost exclusively on a park's walking trails, what I really like about Deep Creek Park is all of the other facilities here.

Mom can drop the kids off for softball practice at one of the four lighted ball fields and then she can get a few miles in on the walking path that surrounds that park, or dad can do some fishing in one of the several ponds here, while the kids run around the path or check out one of two large playgrounds.

And our four-legged friends can definitely get their exercise in at the big, fenced dog park!

In fact, a few of the pups gave us a little escort while we were there.

I mentioned that there isn't a lot of interesting scenery on the walking trail, but the path does connect to the nearby Dismal Swamp Canal Trail.

You can read about that walk below!
