NORFOLK, Va. — You don't have to travel far to get your steps in.

If you're a fan of beautiful water views and great architecture, you'll really enjoy a walk around Norfolk's Colonial Place neighborhood.

Colonial Place is on a peninsula, so there are great views of the Lafayette River on three sides.

The path along the river isn't always perfect, especially after a big rain, and the local goose population provides a few obstacles as well.

But sticking to the sidewalks can be just as nice, especially if you love old homes, and it's easy to find your way around on streets named mostly for the original 13 colonies.

Colonial Place was developed during the first half of the 20th century, so you get a great blend of architecture from big stately colonial revival homes to more modest brick ranches.

You might even walk by a beautiful Mediterranean-style home once owned by a famous local TV news anchor!
