VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Plaza Middle School sixth grader Savannah G. received some fantastic news, she won a $5,000 scholarship and is a national finalist in Mott's Design Contest, competing for an additional $10,000 scholarship!

Savannah saw a drawing contest, sponsored by Motts and Crayola, as she was getting ready to begin the new school year and decided to enter.

She submitted her drawing in July, and late last month was notified that her art was chosen and that she was selected as a national finalist!

Savannah's drawing depicts a family of Crayola crayons camping and looking at the stars.

"We are extremely proud of Savannah. She is an outstanding student in school and an excellent sister to her younger brother and sister," said mother Samantha. "She is very enthusiastic about art and her creativity comes through in her drawings and creations."

The Motts Design Competition finalist round completes on Nov. 15.
