PORTSMOUTH, Va. — An alleyway is becoming a canvas for local artists.

"Saturday, May 11th from 12 to 7 p.m., we are having our first mural festival in Portsmouth. It's called Wall Street Mural Festival," said Matt Diggs. Diggs is on the planning committee for the festival and says there will be 10 different artists, painting 10 different murals, all with different backgrounds and experience levels.

The cool thing about these artists? They're all originally from Virginia. And you can watch them as they create beautiful works of art.

"The artists are going to be painting live during the event, so the spectators will be able to see them painting the murals," said Diggs.

There will also be food, music, break dancing, skateboarding and old -school arcade games!

This festival is made possible by Support Portsmouth Public Art. Its mission is to install public art, educate and create outreach to neighborhoods.

"We just need more creative things for the folks to do," said Diggs. "We have a really cool city with a lot of potential and just getting in touch with the youth here and giving them something to do that's positive. It's a dream come true of mine to be part of something this big and something that I really think is going to push Portsmouth in a positive direction."
