HAMPTON ROADS, Va. — Two college marching bands based in Hampton Roads are ranked among the best in the nation, according to a newly released ESPN list.
ESPN’s rankings for HBCU Gameday list the best Division I HBCU marching bands.
On the list of 15, Hampton University’s “Marching Force” is ranked 12th, and Norfolk State University’s “Spartan Legion” is ranked 5th.

Southern University's "Human Jukebox" marching band topped the rankings.
The current rankings are subject to change before the top five lists for DI and DII HBCU schools are finalized. The top two teams from each division will be invited to compete for the ESPN Band of the Year. The big winner will be named in December.
