NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk is hosting a variety of events in celebration of its 12th annual Bike Month.

The city says Bike Month aims to raise awareness about the benefits of biking, including creating safer streets, connecting communities and creating a healthier planet.

The month-long occasion is sponsored by Lime, the e-scooter and e-bike sharing company that has vehicles available for people to rent throughout the city. The company is enthusiastic about the partnership and hopes this Norfolk Bike Month is “the biggest and best yet.”

Lime says the following events are happening throughout the rest of the month:

  • National Bike to Work Week (May 15 - 19)
  • Bike to Work Day (May 19 from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m.): There will be pit stops throughout the city where bikers can grab some water and fruit. There will also be giveaways at the stops. The stops are located at City Hall Plaza, MacArthur Square-Tide Station, the Elizabeth River Ferry Dock, Assembly at Granby Street & Freemason Street, The Plot, Elizabeth River Trail (at the corner of Raleigh Ave. & Orapax Street), 2406 Colley Avenue and Old Dominion Webb Center.
  • Glow Ride (May 20 at 8:30 p.m.): Bikers are encouraged to wear their best glow-in-the-dark clothing, glow sticks and flashing lights to participate in the Glow Ride in the NEON District. Bikers will meet at The Plot.
  • Zoo Bike Night (May 25 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.): The Virginia Zoo is staying open late for Zoo Bike Night! Attendees can enjoy the event on two wheels and enjoy "bike-centric" vendors, food trucks, a decoration station and more. Tickets are on sale now.
