NORFOLK, Va. — You are never too young to make an impact in your community, and kids at the Spiritual Life Family Worship Center are learning about the importance of giving back.

The kids created a project entitled "Suitcases for Foster Kids."

The idea for this initiative started when the kids learned about other children in the foster care system using trash bags to carry their items.

Sharon Walston, the Children's Ministry Coordinator, tells News 3 the kids got together and thought of donating suitcases to foster kids.

"We decided to do a mission project to see what we could do to help them, we met on several occasions and when we all came together we said we could get suitcases for foster kids," said Walston.

As a way for them to raise money for the cause, the children hosted a play in front of the church.

At the end of the play, the kids said, "No more trash bags for kids!"

10-year-old Gabriel Brown, the Children's Ministry group leader, tells News 3 this project is important to those in foster care.

"Well because, it will just help out other people and it would be a good thing to do for the foster kids," said Brown.

Each suitcase includes a hand-created card made by the children's ministry with motivational quotes, toothbrushes, toothpaste and towels.

Walston tells News 3 the ministry is still looking for partners and donations as the kids continue to expand their project.

"We can partner with the dentist office, Walmarts or any store that is willing to put towels in there, anything that a child or teenager might need," said Walston.

As of today, the kids have collected 19 suitcases and they say they're excited to donate them to a nearby foster facility.

With the help of their church community, they are learning that no matter what age you are, you are never too young to make a difference !
