NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk resident Devon Brooks has a dog and is thinking of adopting a cat at the Animal Care and Control Center on Sabre Road.

“I want it so bad, so, so bad,” said Brooks.

They say we don’t pick out pets, they pick us.

“What is it about this cat that you like?" News 3's Beverly Kidd asked?

"Well this cat is tiny," said Brooks. "Also I’ve never really had a kitten."

Looks like Norfolk resident Devon Brooks has found his next fur baby.

“Why I’d get this one because its black and white specifically and I have a dog that’s named Oreo so at the same time its a perfect match,” said Brooks.

He was trying to decide whether to adopt at the Norfolk Animal Care and Control center, but when he heard the adoption fees were waived, it made him take another look.

“Right now, we are so full with animals and with the holidays coming around we thought it was the perfect time,” said Ramone Villatoro, Operations Manager at the Norfolk Animal Care and Control Center.

Villatoro says they are maxed out with 50 dogs.

We met Barnyard. He is a 10 month old Pit mix. He is as sweet as can be and he is decked out for the holidays, he’s even got a little bow tie here. And right now until the end of the month, you can adopt him for free and its normally $75.

And not only do you get a new furry family member…

“They come with microchips they come with a rabies vaccine if its age appropriate, core vaccines de-wormer, flea and tick preventative," said Villatoro.

And they’re also spayed or neutered. So with a deal like that, Devon couldn’t resist taking his little angel home for the Holidays.
