POQUOSON, Va. - An effort to restore a historic general store is getting a boost on Saturday.

Nonprofit Giving Hope in Hampton Roads is hosting a fundraiser outside the Poquoson Museum on Poquoson Avenue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature more than 70 vendors, food and live music — all with a goal of raising money for the restoration of the Tom Hunt Store.

The former general store and post office dates back to the 1800s and was transported to the museum property. The Poquoson Museum has spent roughly $100,000 to try and restore the historic structure, believed to be among the oldest still standing in Poquoson.

Event organizers tell News 3 the effort still needs around $20,000.

"There was so much more going on than they thought. Therefore, $20,000 got added onto the restoration project. They're excited that we're coming out again and doing what we can for them," said Karen Whaley, President and Founder of Giving Hope in Hampton Roads.

Whaley says admission for the fundraiser is free and her organization will also be collecting donations.

The fundraising goal is $5,000.
