NORFOLK, Va. — It’s been said, “laundry is the real, never-ending story.”

That is an homage to the movie title, but the real deal is a retired nurse who has taken on the task of laundry and made herself invaluable to the Norfolk SPCA.

Cheryl Pauley turned her attention to caring for the animals after a 35-year career as a nurse. Today you will find her volunteering her time sorting through mountains of laundry to make sure the resident animals have clean linens.

Pauley comes to the Norfolk location at least twice a week and the staff is more than grateful.

“All these animals here, they need linens, so she takes a great weight off our shoulders”, says Suzy Swims of the Norfolk SPCA.

That may be, but Pauley tells News 3 that she considers her contribution a ‘labor of love’. In addition, the staff says Pauley has fostered pets, and shows up and works at many events in support of the Norfolk SPCA.

For those reasons and more, Cheryl Pauley is this week’s News 3 Everyday Hero. Our Partners at Southern Bank also awarded her a $300 dollar Visa gift card which we suspect will make its way back to the Norfolk SPCA. She is that kind of lady.
