NORFOLK, Va. — Do you know a person who lights up the room when they enter because of their positive spirit?
That's what they say about Everyday Hero Trasean Singletary.
He proved to be an athletic superstar at the Special Olympics this summer in Germany, bringing home the Gold and the Bronze in track.
"It was so awesome, and I was honored to be representing the USA for that cause it made me happy and win, lose or draw, it inspired me," Singletary said.
Trasean competed in three events: the 4x400 meter relay, the 5000 meters where he won Bronze with a time of 21:31.68, and the 3000 meters where he won Gold with a time of 12:18.10.
That accomplishment alone would be enough, but his co-workers tell me that just scratches the surface of who Trasean is.
He has worked for more than a decade with the laundry staff at Eggleston Services in Norfolk, where he is known to have a heart of gold.
His co-workers say he brings a positive spirit and inspires them every single day.
He trains seven days a week and runs everywhere including to and from work at Eggleston, which is a 4.7 mile trip each way.
When asked what it is about running that he loves Trasean said, "You have to keep moving forward, put the past and negative stuff behind you. Running helps me keep moving forward."
Trasean wants to share the glory of fitness by recruiting fellow co-workers to join and participate in several Special Olympic team sports.
When he is not spreading the love of sports at work, he takes on the role of friend and helper after hours.
Co-worker Steven Blount says he couldn't ask for a more supportive friend.
"When I didn't have no ride for Special Olympics practice, he made sure I got there," said Blount.
For all he does to encourage and inspire others, Trasean Singletary is our News 3 Everyday Hero!
