WINDSOR, Va. — The cute and cuddly residents of the Isle of Wight animal shelter meow and bark up a storm with each visitor.
Some are a little more vocal than others, and 17-year-old Kaitlyn Springle loves them all, demonstrated by her volunteering efforts at the shelter.
Recently, she organized a donation drive at her school, Isle of Wight Academy, to raise necessary supplies for the shelter.
"So I went up to my teachers and I was like, I really want to do something for the animal shelter. Can we get this to be a project?" she said.

The answer was yes, and she went right to work.
"So we got a bunch of toys, lots of laundry detergents, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, some dish soap, food, we got lots of food too," Springle said.
Isle of Wight Animal Control Officer Amber Sutter was shocked.
"To see a large pickup truck coming down the road full of items in the bed of the truck...it's just such a warm feeling, knowing that there are so many people in the community that really do care about animal control and the animals at the shelter that are homeless," Sutter said.
For those reasons, News 3 gave Kaitlyn an Everyday Hero award along with a $300 Visa gift card from our community partner Southern Bank.
She was very grateful, exclaiming: "Oh my gosh thank you - thank you so much!"
Her mother Sandy Springle had no idea what her daughter was up to.
"I actually didn't even know anything about it. I'm just very proud of her," she told News 3.
