NORFOLK, Va. - This week’s Everyday Hero juggles a job, college and an enormous volunteer commitment.
It takes a special person to connect with folks who are experiencing pain and struggle. Faith Hadley is that person, according to her colleagues at the YWCA in Norfolk.
Hadley spends productive volunteer hours lifting up people who need a positive boost. The chief executive officer tells me she is an important part of their team.
“Faith is a critical part of our mission and really the fabric of what makes the YW for so many people who find themselves in vulnerable positions," said Michelle Ellis-Young.
The YWCA celebrates its staff and volunteers. As they know, it’s not easy to serve a part of the community where some folks are going through the worst days of their lives.
And the volunteers who take those phone calls are a vital connection.
Hadley works a paying job but comes to the YWCA multiple times a week to take those calls as part of the outreach ambassador team.
Hadley described why she is so passionate about the mission.
“I’m giving back to my community helping women and men who have been hurt and starting to see the world as not a happy place, and I want to make the world a bit brighter," said Hadley.
