CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A tiny army of kindergarten students set out on a mission to provide food for people experiencing food insecurity throughout Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

Primrose School at Cahoon Commons students took a field trip to Kroger in Chesapeake as part of the Primrose Schools annual Caring and Giving Food Drive.

In the month leading up to the shopping trip, the students did chores at home to learn responsibility and earn money for those in need in the community. Using their math skills, they combined their earnings to create a budget and a shopping list of nutritious items.

For those reasons they are recognized as this week’s News 3 Everyday Heroes, and our community partners at Southern Bank awarded them a $300 dollar Visa gift card for their charity efforts.
